FOOTBALL - Solihull Moors end losing run with home draw against Sutton

MATT Taylor hopes Solihull Moors can build on their 1-1 home draw against Sutton United after ending their five-game losing run.

Moors fell behind to Eduino Vaz’s early goal only for Jack Stevens to draw the home side level before the break at Damson Park.

The result means Solihull sit 15th in the National League table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

And Taylor praised his side’s character for responding well to an early setback.

Taylor said: “The players worked extremely hard for each other, at times we had to deal with pressure.

“I was pleased with the character the players showed, we went a goal down and we’ve been in that position a few times this season.

“We got back into the game and had some really good chances in the second half but we didn’t take them, a point is probably fair.

“I commend the players, they did the basics really well, they fought and harried. I’m happy with the reaction the players showed.

“The minimum requirement is maximum effort now until the end of the season.

“We’ve got to build on this and bring that same energy into the next game.”

Sutton broke the deadlock after just seven minutes when Vaz fired a shot into the bottom right corner after debutant Robbie Cundy could only clear a low cross from the left into the scorer’s path.

However, Moors equalised on 18 minutes when Sutton failed to clear their lines at a free-kick and Stevens headed Olly Tipton’s hopeful ball into the box past Jack Sims from six-yards out.

Solihull host Ebbsfleet United on Saturday, March 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Damson Park.
