ANDY Whing admitted his side ‘needed a reaction’ after Solihull Moors claimed an impressive 1-0 win away at Halifax Town.
Moors secured their first away win of the season courtesy of Jordan Tunnicliffe’s first-half goal despite James Clarke’s late dismissal at the Shay.
And Moors boss Whing believes his side will only improve as the season progresses.
Whing said: “It’s massive really in terms of the last few games, we needed a reaction and the most important thing was the three points.
“The first four games we’ve lacked control but we controlled the game in the first half the second half was all about grit and determination.
“The lads were excellent, they dug in, it wasn’t pretty, they worked their absolute socks off, we were crying out for a performance like that.
“It showed everyone is together, we looked like a team and that’s the most pleasing part.
“It’s about building now, we know what we’ve got in there, I think we’ll get better and better as the season progresses.
“Sometimes you need a performance like that to get everyone to gel together, the units, the team and the fans.”
Moors took the lead on 30 minutes when Tunnicliffe bundled the ball home from close range after Oliver Tipton headed Jamey Osborne’s floated free-kick across the face of goal.
And the visitors had to play the final few moments with 10-men after James Clarke received a red card deep into injury time.
That came after Moors drew 1-1 with Braintree Town at Damson Park as Bradley Stevenson’s late goal rescued a point for the home side.
Braintree broke the deadlock on seven minutes as Kyrell Lisbie produced excellent footwork in the box before finishing past Laurie Walker.
Moors eventually drew level with nine minutes left to play as substitute Stevenson finished at the second attempt from James Gale’s cutback.
Solihull are next in action against Wealdstone on Saturday, August 31 with kick-off at 3pm at Damson Park.
