FOOTBALL - Rolph hat-trick inspires Knowle Ladies to comfortable win

DEMI Rolph scored a hat-trick as Knowle recorded a comfortable 4-0 win against neighbours Kingfisher.

Rolph scored twice in the first half before completing her treble late on with Sam Smith also on target.

The result means Knowle sit top of the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League Division One South table having won all four of their matches this season.

Knowle went close in the opening minutes as Jess Holland shot straight at the goalkeeper from a promising position.

However, the visitors were ahead on 15 minutes when Rolph lashed home a loose ball past Sarah Pettigrew after Holland’s glancing header was blocked into her path.

And after Rolph shot inches wide, Knowle doubled their lead on the half hour mark as Smith ghosted in at the back post to stab the ball home from Morgan Betteridge’s corner.

Knowle extended their lead just three minutes later when Rolph cut inside and fired the ball into the far corner after a good press from Holland and Emma Shaw.

The visitors dominated the play in the second period despite Knowle keeper Katy Smirthwaite making a fine save to deny Eloise Cresswell when one-on-one.

And Knowle grabbed their fourth of the afternoon on 79 minutes as Rolph completed her hat-trick when she rounded the keeper and placed an effort into the bottom corner.

Knowle are next in action against Westfields Women on Sunday, October 16 with kick-off at 2pm at Allpay Park.
