FOOTBALL - Robins on song in Barnt Green Spartak demolition

KNOWLE secured an emphatic 4-0 win away at Barnt Green Spartak to remain unbeaten in Midland Football League Division Two after five matches.

Owen Ward, Lewis Clarke, Dylon Bennett and Charlie Morris were all on target to secure the Robins their second league win of the season at The Pavilions.

That came after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Inkberrow as Reece Hewitt’s opener was cancelled out by a second-half penalty.

The results leave Knowle in seventh place in the table, just three points behind leaders Cadbury Athletic.

And the Robins made a quick start against Spartak when Ward struck inside the opening 10 minutes after he latched onto a cross before firing home.

Knowle spurned several first-half chances in a dominant display before eventually extending their lead on the hour mark when Lewis Clarke headed home from Ward’s corner.

And Dylon Bennett crowned a fine individual performance with a fabulous goal as he combined well with Charlie Morris and George Seeley before racing onto a ball in the box to score.

The Robins stretched their lead late on when Morris found the net after Zak Parsons pounced on a poor clearance before finding the former who made no mistake.

That came after another disappointing draw at Inkberrow where Knowle again started brightly with both Morris and Ward denied by home goalkeeper Max Court.

And the pressure eventually told when Hewitt opened the scoring on 27 minutes with an excellent finish shooting across goal into the bottom left corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Hewitt spurned a good chance to double his tally when he was played in by Morris only to be denied by the onrushing Court and fire the follow up effort wide on the turn.

And Inkberrow made the Robins pay for those missed chances when Clarke was penalised for a foul in the box and Jay Higgins-Pugsley converted the resulting penalty.

Knowle are next in action at home to Fairfield Villa on Saturday, September 3 with kick-off at 3pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
