FOOTBALL - Robins extend winning run with Easter victories

KARTEL O’Neil Martin scored four goals over the Easter period as Knowle extended their winning run to 16 matches with victories against Fairfield Villa and Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons respectively.

O’Neil Martin scored twice as Knowle won 2-1 at Fairfield Villa and also netted a brace as the Robins eased to a 5-1 victory at Boldmere.

And the results mean Knowle are now just five points behind leaders Sutton United in the Midland Football League Division Two table with three games in hand.

The Robins were without five senior players in their win at Fairfield as O’Neil Martin opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a fine finish past a Villa defender and the goalkeeper.

However, a miskick at the back allowed Alex Knight to level for Fairfield early in the second period after Knowle failed to put the game out of reach.

The game became a feisty affair as O’Neil Martin restored Knowle’s lead from the penalty spot before Villa’s Nikinder Uppal was sent off late on.

And the Robins backed up that win with an emphatic victory at already-relegated Boldmere as Joe Sinton opened the scoring early on when he poked the ball home from a corner.

Knowle extended their lead when Reece Staley’s effort caught in the wind and deceived the Boldmere keeper before O’Neil Martin powered the ball home from a tight angle.

The home side responded in the second half as Jay Rendall finished from 12-yards out only for the Robins to restore their three-goal lead when O’Neil Martin scored from the penalty spot.

And Jack Ricketts completed the scoring with a rocket from 18-yards out as Knowle closed in on league leaders Sutton.

Knowle are next in action away at Alcester Town on Saturday, April 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Stratford Road.
