FOOTBALL - Robins edge out Inkberrow to move second

NATHAN Corry’s goal moved Knowle up to second in the table after the Robins edged out Inkberrow 1-0 to secure a 13th successive victory.

Corry scored the game’s only goal after just two minutes as Knowle kept Inkberrow at bay for the remainder of the match at the Draintech Community Ground.

The result means Knowle sit second in the Midland Football League Division Two table, eight points behind leaders Sutton United with four games in hand.

Knowle made a blistering start and took the lead on two minutes when Corry tapped home from close range after Inkberrow goalkeeper Max Court failed to deal with a ball in the box.

Inkberrow dominated thereafter and hit the post as Knowle defenders Ben Jones, Lewis Clarke, Christian McArdle and Hayden Seymour and goalkeeper Craig Johnson showed why the Robins had the meanest defence in the division.

The home side improved after the break as substitutes Jacob Walton and Jack Ricketts injected energy into Knowle’s play.

However, Inkberrow refused to go away and made the Robins work for the points as Knowle recorded their fifth successive clean sheet in all competitions.

Knowle are next in action at home to Cadbury Athletic on Wednesday, April 5 in the semi-finals of the Les James Challenge Cup with kick-off at 6pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
