FOOTBALL - Robins ease to cup victory

BEN Jones scored what proved to be the winner as Knowle beat Sutton Rangers 2-0 to advance in the Les James Challenge Cup.

The Robins took the lead through Jones’ first-half goal before Nathan Corry wrapped up the win in the second period at the Draintech Community Ground.

Injuries and unavailability left Clive and Matthew Seeley with a limited squad but the Robins were still able to east past their MFL Division Three opponents.

Jones, Ash Weeks and Jacob Walton all started with new signings Lewis Gordon and Ramarlo Barrett on the bench.

Knowle began to assert their authority on the match as Weeks controlled the tempo of the game from in front of the Robins defenders.

And Jones fired Knowle into a deserved lead when he collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area before creating some space and finding the net.

The Robins confirmed the win seven minutes after the break when Corry capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to turn the ball home with a well-placed finish.

Knowle are next in action against local rivals Hampton on Saturday, October 29 with kick-off at 3pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
