FOOTBALL - Robins beat 10-man Hampton to claim Solihull derby spoils

REECE Hewitt scored a brace to help Knowle beat Solihull rivals Hampton 2-0 and extend the Robins unbeaten run to 11 matches.

Hewitt scored in either half to settle a fiercely-contested derby clash as the Robins claimed the bragging rights at the Draintech Community Stadium.

The result means Knowle sit second in the Midland Football League Division Two table, level on points with leaders Sutton United who have a game in hand.

And Knowle took an early lead when Hewitt found the net from 18-yards out with a sumptuous effort that left Hampton goalkeeper Matt Alleley with no chance.

Hampton dragged themselves back into the contest thereafter and twice tested the Knowle goal as the Robins took a slender lead into the break.

However, the visitors were in trouble shortly after the interval when Ash Maddocks was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Knowle’s Charlie Morris.

Despite their numerical advantage, Knowle struggled to put the game to bed until Hewitt struck deep into injury time on the counter attack as Hampton searched for an equaliser.

The midfielder latched onto a long ball upfield only for Hampton keeper Alleley to block his initial effort as the ball kindly rebounded into Hewitt’s path who applied a simple finish.

Knowle are next in action away at Cadbury Athletic on Saturday, November 5 with kick-off at 2pm at Cadbury Recreation Ground.
