FOOTBALL - Moors sweep Stones aside to end winless run

Solihull Editorial 6th Oct, 2022   0

SOLIHULL Moors ended a three-game winless run with a 2-1 victory at home to Wealdstone as Neal Ardley’s side overcame a second-half setback.

Moors secured a much-needed win in midweek as Andrew Dallas opened the scoring before Joe Sbarra grabbed the winner at the ARMCO Arena.

The results mean Solihull sit fifth in the National League table, five points behind leaders Notts County.

Moors were quick out of the blocks as Ryan Barnett’s half-volley was well saved by Wealdstone goalkeeper Samuel Howes before he then kept out Dallas’s low shot.

And Sbarra went even closer when his shot was destined for the bottom corner only for the effort to be blocked on the line by the leg of Dominic Hutchinson.

Solihull took a deserved lead on 26 minutes when Dallas slammed the ball home from Barnett’s cross from the right.

Wealdstone improved after the break as Louie Moulden comfortable saved Stephan Browne’s effort before Josh Kelly had a goal ruled out for offside at the other end.

However, the visitors drew level on 70 minutes when former Southampton youngster Olufela Olomola turned the ball home at the third time of asking.

Solihull reclaimed the lead on 77 minutes when Sbarra finished well at the back post after Kelly helped Barnett’s low cross into his path to ensure Moors went home with the points.

Moors are next in action away at Yeovil Town on Saturday, October 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Huish Park.
