SOLIHULL Moors were beaten 2-0 by relegation-threatened Gateshead as Neal Ardley’s side suffered a fifth straight home defeat in all competitions.

Goals from Dan Ward and Will Harris settled the game at the ARMCO Arena as Moors slipped to a seventh defeat in their last eight matches.

The result means Moors sit 13th in the National League table, five points outside of the play-off places and eight points above the drop.

Moors dominated the ball early on but were unable to create a meaningful chance before Ryan Boot made a superb save as he spread himself to keep out Dan Ward at the back post,

The home side saw chances for Ryan Barnett, Ben Coker and Joe Sbarra come and go before Ward blazed over at the other end from inside the penalty area.

And Gateshead broke the deadlock on 39 minutes when Ward slammed the ball home on the volley after Boot could only push a deflected effort into the midfielder’s path.

The visitors could have added a second goal before the break only for Adam Campbell to shoot wide when one-on-one with Boot.

Moors looked to respond in the second half as Coker’s free-kick from 25-yards out clipped the outside of the post.

And the home side were then denied a leveller when Andrew Dallas’s effort was cleared off the line before Callum Howe headed straight at Gateshead goalkeeper Filip Marschall.

Dallas went close again when he was denied by the outstretched leg of Marschall from Clarke’s pass with time beginning to run out.

And Gateshead landed a killer blow in injury time when Harris rolled the ball into the bottom left corner following a rapid counter attack from a Moors throw-in.

Solihull are next in action away at York City on Tuesday, February 7 with kick-off at 7.45pm at LNER Community Stadium.
