FOOTBALL - Moors held to drab draw at Maidstone

SOLIHULL Moors played out a drab goalless draw away at Maidstone United to lose further ground on the teams above them.

Neither side was able to carve out a clear-cut opening on a miserable night in Kent at a rain-soaked Gallagher Stadium.

The result leaves Solihull in fourth place in the National League table, 10 points behind leaders Notts County.

And the first half proved to be a tactical battle as Ben Coker had the game’s first meaningful effort when his free-kick took a slight deflection off the wall and was comfortably saved by Ryan Sandford.

At the other end, Roarie Deacon went close before Christie Pattisson flashed a strike across the face of goal and wide.

The second half followed a similar pattern as Callum Whelan had a volley blocked before Ryan Barnett saw a tame effort saved.

Some good defending prevented Ryan Galvin from breaking the deadlock for Maidstone before Josh Kelly spurned Moors best chance when he failed to convert from Barnett’s low cross when under pressure.

Moors are next in action at home to League Two side Hartlepool United on Saturday, November 5 in the First Round of the FA Cup with kick-off at 3pm at the ARMCO Arena.
