FOOTBALL - Moors held by Southend in first home game

ANDREW Dallas was on target again as Solihull Moors were pegged back to draw 1-1 with Southend United in their first home game of the season.

Dallas opened the scoring on 12 minutes at the ARMCO Arena only for Chris Wreh to equalise on 64 minutes to deny Moors a second win from as many games.

The result means Moors sit joint-top of the National League table alongside Notts County as both teams share an identical record after two matches.

Southend spurned the first big chance of the game after just four minutes when Callum Powell pounced on a loose back pass before rounding Louie Moulden and shooting wide with the goal at his mercy.

And Moors punished the Shrimpers for that miss when Dallas put the home side ahead with a fine finish for his second goal in as many games from Callum Maycock’s through ball.

Solihull almost doubled their lead through Ryan Barnett’s drilled effort before Moulden made a terrific reaction save to keep out Jaden Crowhurst’s deflected shot.

The visitors were the better team after the break and deservedly drew level when Wreh curled a brilliant effort into the top corner from outside the penalty area from Callum Powell’s lay-off.

Moors tried to wrestle back the advantage late on as substitute Josh Kelly was denied when one-on-one with Southend keeper Steve Arnold.

And Solihull felt they should have had a penalty at the death when Dallas went down in the area with referee Scott Jackson opting to book the Scottish striker for diving much to the frustration of the home side.

Solihull are next in action at home to York City on Wednesday, August 17 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the ARMCO Arena.
