SOLIHULL Moors lost further ground in their hunt for a play-off place after Neal Ardley’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Dagenham and Redbridge.

Goals in either half from Dagenham striker Inih Effiong condemned Solihull to defeat after Bartosz Cybulski levelled for Moors just before the break at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

The result means Moors sit 12th in the National League table, four points outside of the play-off places.

Moors started on the front foot and came close to the opener when Cybulski turned Ben Coker’s low cross narrowly wide of the target.

And the visitors went close again soon after as James Clarke nodded another Coker cross just over the crossbar before Effiong blasted inches wide from distance at the other end.

The home side took the lead against the run of play on 36 minutes when Effiong fired a loose ball into the bottom left corner after his initial free-kick was blocked by the wall.

However, Moors were level just five minutes later when Andrew Dallas jinked his way to the byline and drilled a cross into the box that deflected into the top corner via a touch from Cybulski.

Moors were on course to secure a point in the capital until Effiong scored a superb winner on 73 minutes with a stunning effort into the top corner from 25-yards out.

The Daggers almost added a third goal when Junior Morais cut in from the right and saw his shot tipped over the bar by Moors goalkeeper Ryan Boot.

Moors are next in action away at Boreham Wood on Tuesday, February 14 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Meadow Park.
