SOLIHULL Moors were beaten 2-0 by League Two side Walsall in their penultimate pre-season friendly at the ARMCO Arena.

Moors started well when Callum Howe headed into the gloves of Owen Evans before a beautiful passing move ended with Evans making a fine save to deny Callum Maycock.

And a slick counter attack almost saw the deadlock broken when Trialist B’s deflected shot was tipped over the bar having started the move with a nutmeg inside his own half.

However, Walsall took the lead on 38 minutes when Danny Johnson prodded home from close range following a low cross into the six-yard box.

And Moors had goalkeeper Louie Moulden to thank for keeping them in the contest as he made an incredible reaction save to thwart Taylor Allen from point blank range.

Solihull pushed for a leveller in the second period as Alex Reid nodded just over the bar only for Walsall to double their lead on 74 minutes when Andrew Williams produced an emphatic finish past Moulden.

The home side almost reduced the deficit when Jamey Osborne’s deflected strike went just over the top before Reid headed against the crossbar from Ryan Barnett’s cross.

Moors play their final pre-season game behind-closed-doors against AFC Telford United on Saturday, July 30.
