JOSH Kelly scored twice as Solihull Moors produced late heroics to beat Scunthorpe United 3-1 to secure a third successive victory in the league.

Kelly sealed the points in style with virtually the last kick of the game after he had opened the scoring in the first half before Joe Sbarra scored what proved to be the winner four minutes from time at the ARMCO Arena.

The result means Moors sit 11th in the National League table, nine points outside of the play-off places.

Moors almost fell behind in the opening five minutes as Ryan Boot made a sensational save to tip Cameron Wilson’s effort onto the post.

The home side responded when Mark Beck met Justin Donawa’s high cross which forced Scunthorpe stopper Aaron Chapman to tip the ball around the post.

However, Moors broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Kelly charged down a Chapman kick and the ball ricocheted into the back of the net.

The visitors equalised on 35 minutes when Will Smith rose highest to head a free-kick into the top corner and send the teams in level at the break.

Moors looked to restore their lead in the second period as Donawa saw his fierce effort blocked before the same player had another shot saved by Chapman.

And Donawa spurned a third chance as he blazed over from Sbarra’s cross later in the half before Tom Pugh was unable to capitalise at the other end when he found himself one-on-one with Boot.

However, Solihull’s second-half dominance paid off on 86 minutes when Sbarra slammed the ball into the bottom corner from Beck’s lay off after Donawa flicked James Clarke’s cross into the big striker’s path.

Moors survived a scare late on when Richie Bennett poked over before Kelly sealed the points at the death with a delightful lob over Chapman after he used his pace to get in behind the Iron defence.

The victory marks the first time Moors have won three league games on the spin this season.

Solihull are next in action at home to Boreham Wood on Saturday, March 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the ARMCO Arena.
