KNOWLE surrendered a second-half lead as the Robins suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Alcester Town on the opening day of the season.

Nathan Corry’s opener looked to have set Knowle on their way to victory only for Alcester to score three goals without reply at the Draintech Community Ground.

The result means the Robins sit 15th in the Midland Football League Division Two table after one fixture.

Alcester looked to impose themselves on the fixture from the off but were unable to trouble Craig Johnson in the Knowle goal despite their early dominance.

Knowle took their time to grow into the fixture and failed to break the deadlock from a series of corners as the first half ended goalless.

And the Robins took the lead on 58 minutes when George Seeley’s delightful pass released Corry who made no mistake to break the deadlock.

However, the opening goal sparked Alcester into life as Odane Barnes equalised for the visitors on the hour mark after capitalising on a lapse of concentration in the Robins defence.

Alcester dominated the remainder of the fixture and completed the turnaround on 80 minutes as Barnes grabbed his second of the game.

And Alcester sealed the win on 87 minutes when Daniel Sutton found the net to compound Knowle’s misery.

Knowle host Coventrians in their next outing on Wednesday, August 9 with kick-off at 6.30pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
