KNOWLE saw their remarkable 24-game unbeaten run in the league come to an end following a 1-0 defeat against title rivals Gornal Athletic.

The Robins lost in the league for the first time since August as Brad Ward’s penalty settled a fiery contest at the Draintech Community Ground.

Knowle had Brady Floyd sent off on 25 minutes following an off-the-ball incident which left the Robins down a player for almost 70 minutes.

And Gornal eventually made the extra man count on 74 minutes when Ward scored from the spot after the referee penalised the home side for handball in the box.

Despite the defeat, Knowle remain in control of the title race with the Robins second in the Midland Football League Division One table.

The Robins trail leaders Gornal by five points but crucially have two games in hand on their title rivals.

Knowle are next in action against Lutterworth Athletic on Saturday, March 21 with kick-off at 3pm at the Draintech Community Ground.
