KNOWLE rescued an injury-time point in a dramatic 2-2 draw at title rivals Gornal Athletic only for the game to end in further controversy.

The Robins made a slow start and found themselves two goals down at the break as Jamie Beddall and Taylor Homer found the net to put Gornal in command at Garden Walk.

Knowle also saw a first-half penalty saved as Connor Mort failed to find the net from 12-yards out.

However, the visitors halved the deficit early in the second half when Odane Barnes forced the ball over the line following a scramble in the box.

And the Robins took a giant step towards the title when Barnes finished a low ball in from the left at the back post eight minutes into injury time to spark wild celebrations on the touchline.

Gornal knew only a win would give them any chance of lifting the title and sent the goalkeeper up for a corner with seconds left to play.

However, despite Knowle breaking down the pitch from the set-piece, and with an empty goal ahead of them, the referee blew for full time which denied the Robins the chance to clinch the league title.

The draw leaves Knowle top of the Midland Football League Division One table on goal difference although the Robins have two games in hand on Gornal who only have one league fixture left to play this season.
