KNOWLE squandered the chance to become league champions after losing 1-0 against title rivals Northfield Town who are now favourites to clinch promotion.
The Robins slipped to just their second league defeat of the season as Josh Roberts scored the game’s only goal at Shenley Lane.
A win would have secured the title for Knowle while Northfield only needed a draw to keep their title hopes alive.
The result means Knowle now only sit one point clear of Northfield at the top of the Midland Football League Division Two table.
However, Northfield have two games in-hand and require just two points from their remaining two fixtures to clinch the title and promotion.
Knowle have played all of their league fixtures and now require both Coventry Alvis and Hampton to take points off Northfield if they are to win the title.
The game’s only goal came before the break as Roberts sent a half volley from the edge of the penalty area past Robins goalkeeper Nathan Taylor following a quick counter attack.
Knowle will play in the Les James Challenge Cup final next month with Northfield or Hampton to join them in the showpiece.
