ODANE Barnes scored a brace as Knowle moved top of the table with an impressive 3-0 victory against Cadbury Athletic.

Barnes netted twice to all but seal the points before the break after George Seeley opened the scoring at the Draintech Stadium.

The result means Knowle lead the Midland Football League Division Two table by one point and joint Robins boss Clive Seeley praised the depth of his squad following the victory.

Seeley said: “We played really well, we tweaked the shape a little bit, I’m pleased with the depth of the squad this year, it’s great to be able to rotate.

“First half, we came off three-nil up and it could have five or six but fair play to Cadbury, they made it difficult in the second half.

“I’m still frustrated by some of the chances we missed but we restricted them to only one or two shots.

“It was pleasing the way we nullified them, we didn’t drop our standards.”

Knowle broke the deadlock inside 10 minutes when Seeley turned a headed ball across the penalty area into the net.

Cadbury goalkeeper Fraser Oliver made a number of saves to keep Cadbury in the contest as Knowle pressed to double their advantage.

And the Robins eventually found a second goal as Barnes latched onto a long ball and chipped Oliver from outside the penalty area.

The home side made it three before half time when Barnes beat several Cadbury defenders on the edge of the box before producing a clinical finish.

Knowle are next in action against Central Ajax on Saturday, August 31 with kick-off at 3pm at the Draintech Stadium.
