FOOTBALL - Knowle forced to settle for third place despite final day victory

KNOWLE FC were forced to settle for a third place finish in the league despite coming from behind to beat Barnt Green Spartak 2-1 on the final day of the season.

The Robins trailed at half time only for goals from Brandon Hague and Dylon Bennett to ensure Knowle finished the season with a victory at The Pavilions.

And the result confirmed Knowle’s third place finish in the Midland Football League Division Two table, after Coton Green claimed a point at Coventry Alvis to clinch promotion.

Despite Knowle dominating the opening 20 minutes, Barnt Green took the lead through Rene Adigbo’s strike despite the Robins appealing adamantly for offside.

The home side frustrated Knowle until the hour mark when Hague turned the ball home from a cross from the right to draw the Robins level.

Knowle scored a deserved winner on 82 minutes from the penalty spot as Bennett made no mistake from 12-yards out.

The Robins were keeping tabs on Coton Green’s clash with Coventry Alvis and discovered that Alvis missed two penalties on route to a 2-2 draw – a Coventry victory would have pushed Knowle up to second.
