FOOTBALL - Knowle fail to clinch second place after final day defeat at Coventry

AN INJURY-hit Knowle finished the season with a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at AFC Coventry Rangers.

The Robins could only name one substitute due to their mounting injury list and failed to secure second place in the table after conceding either side of the break at Mitchell Avenue.

However, ugly scenes occurred towards the end of the game when a member of the home crowd appeared to gain access to the away dugout and threatened Robins joint manager Matthew Seeley.

The result leave Knowle second in the Midland Football League Division Two table, although Coventry can leapfrog the Robins in the standings if they win their final fixture.

Knowle made the worst possible start as Coventry took the lead after just two minutes when Fola Fagbemi took full advantage of a mistake in the Robins defence to open the scoring.

Despite missing 10 players through injury and unavailability, the Robins threatened the Coventry goal on a number of occasions without managing to score.

And the home side sealed the points on 78 minutes as substitute Alpha Wurie pounced on another error at the back to condemn the Robins to defeat.

That came after Knowle put six past 10-man Bolehall Swifts as six different players found the net in a dominant display.

The Robins broke the deadlock after just six minutes when Owain Taylor finished Ben Jones’ cross before George Seeley struck from a corner to double Knowle’s lead.

And Callum Scott tapped home Knowle’s third shortly before half time after good work from the impressive Odane Barnes who scored his side’s fourth goal following a mistake after the break.

Bolehall then lost Scott Goodby to a red card for dissent as Reece Staley scored a stunning goal from distance before substitute George Manning completed the rout with a goal from a corner.
