EARLSWOOD Town slipped to a frustrating 2-0 home defeat against AFC Coventry Rangers.

Goals from Pete Bailey and substitute Harry Wilson condemned the Earls to defeat at Highgate United’s Tythe Barn Lane ground.

The result leaves Earlswood 13th in the Midland Football League Division Two table still nervously peering over their shoulder at the relegation zone.

Despite dominating the early exchanges, the Earls fell behind on 21 minutes as Bailey scored against the run of play with a dipping shot from 20-yards out which evaded the fingertips of Harry Paterson.

The Earls continued to have the better of play in the first-half, although Paterson produced a string of saves after the break.

And as the hosts continued to chase the game, Wilson pounced on a rare Joseph Drake-Cervantes error to squirm past Paterson and poke home from close range at the death.

Earls captain Louis Bridges struck the crossbar with an audacious effort from the halfway line straight from kick-off on a frustrating evening for the home side.

Earlswood host Birmingham United on Tuesday, April 23 with kick-off at 6.30pm.
