EARLSWOOD Town secured their league status despite slipping to two defeats in as many days against Cadbury Athletic and Littleton.

The Earls lost 3-0 at home to Cadbury but were assured of safety after Bolehall Swifts suffered a 6-0 defeat at high-flying Knowle.

However, with safety secured, Earlswood then lost 5-2 at home to relegation-threatened Littleton at the Pavilions.

The Earls still have two games left to play this season and find themselves 12th in the Midland Football League Division Two table.

In their final home game of the season against Littleton, the Earls went behind against the run of play as James Batchelor opened the scoring before Jamie Eden rattled the crossbar for the hosts soon after.

However, the Earls drew level through Joseph Drake Cervantes’ merciless finish from just outside the six-yard box inside the opening 10 minutes.

In a frantic opening, Dan Elwell then chipped a shot narrowly over the crossbar before George McArevey denied Batchelor a brace with a superb goalline clearance.

The visitors reclaimed the lead on the stroke of half time as Michael Boyd found space in the penalty area and cut inside before placing a shot into the top-left corner.

Earls goalkeeper Harry Paterson made an excellent stop to keep out Dan Cottrill’s penalty only for Batchelor to tap into an empty net soon after.

And Dan McArdle stretched Littleton’s lead before Tom Kinsey responded for the Earls as Ben Cowlishaw completed the scoring for the visitors.

That came after Rene Adigbo, Justice Campbell and Callum Devlin all found the net in the Earls defeat against Cadbury.

Earlswood travel to league champions Redditch Borough on Wednesday, May 8 with kick-off at 7pm at Cherry Tree Walk.
