BOTH Luke Woodward and Harry Dixon scored braces as Earlswood Town stormed to their first league win of the season with a 6-1 victory against Coventrians.

Woodward and Dixon both netted twice in the first half while Jake Potter also found the net to put the Earls in total control at The Pavilions.

An own goal from Jon Rooney stretched the home side’s lead after the break as the Earls moved off the bottom of the Midland Football League Division Two table.

Earlswood produced the perfect response to a six-goal drubbing in their last outing and took the lead after just three minutes when defender Woodward powered home Dixon’s corner.

However, Coventrians drew level four minutes later as Lewis Pearson’s header found the net.

The Earls restored their lead on 14 minutes as Potter raced onto Joel Hughes’ flick-on and prodded the ball home.

And the home side struck again two minutes later as Woodward headed in another corner from the opposite side to double his tally for the game.

A quickfire double from Dixon saw the Earls rack up five goals before the break as he placed a free-kick into the bottom right corner before then beating the offside trap and finishing well.

Earls player-manager Hughes had a penalty saved just past the hour mark after Potter drew a foul in the box.

However, the hosts eventually scored their sixth goal when Rooney could only divert Potter’s effort in a crowded penalty area into his own net.

The Earls also handed a debut to Alfie Pyott in goal while David Maison made his first appearance for the club from the bench in the second half.

Earlswood are next in action against Central Ajax on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 3pm at The Pavilions.
