EARLSWOOD Town suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat against divisional rivals AFC Coventry Rangers in the second round of the Birmingham FA Saturday Vase.

The Earls were no match for their Midland Football League Division Two rivals as Rangers scored four first-half goals to take the game out of Town’s reach at Coventry Tech Sporting Club.

Earlswood lost top scorer Dan Elwell to local rivals Knowle following their last outing, having eased past BNJS in the previous round.

And the Earls almost made the perfect start when debutant Jacob Walton found himself in a goalscoring position in the box only for his shot to hit the outside of the post.

However, Coventry took the lead through captain Jordan Powell who planted a header into the top-left corner of the goal from Rory Turnbull’s cross.

And a remarkable six-minute hat-trick from Connoll Farrell put Rangers in command as the forward drove home from the edge of the penalty area to double the home side’s lead.

Farrell then tapped home from close range before finishing from a tight angle to complete his treble to leave the Earls stunned.

And Coventry extended their lead early in the second half as Ryan Alexander picked out the bottom left corner from distance.

Rangers completed the scoring through Turnbull who finished on the rebound after Earls goalkeeper Ethan Pheasey kept out Farrell’s initial effort.

Earlswood are next in action at home to Coventry Alvis on Saturday, November 25 with kick-off at 2pm at The Pavilions.
