EARLSWOOD Town suffered an agonising 4-3 defeat away at Coventrians after conceding a penalty nine minutes into time added on.

Colins Ajayi scored with the last kick of the game to extend Earlswood’s winless run to five matches despite goals from Connor Doyle and Archie Spittle-McGuire at Colliery Sports Ground.

And the result means the Earls sit seventh in the Midland Football League Division Two table.

Earlswood boss Joel Hughes handed a debut to goalkeeper Jack Keeling after Ethan Pheasey was recalled by parent club Leamington with Matt Pemberton the away side’s only substitute.

And Coventrians took the lead after just two minutes as Romano Graham prodded the ball home from a corner.

However, the Earls responded soon after when a backpass slipped under the boot of Coventrians goalkeeper James Connolly.

The home side regained the lead on 11 minutes when Charlie van Veen fired home only for Doyle to equalise with his seventh goal of the season just before the half-hour mark.

However, Coventrians went into the break ahead after Jon Rodney headed in at the far post to give the home side the lead for a third time.

The Earls restored parity within seconds of the restart as Spittle-McGuire raced through before delightfully chipping the ball over Connolly to bring the teams level again.

With only Pemberton available from the bench, the Earls began to tire despite enjoying the better chances in the second period.

And Coventrians eventually took advantage of those tired legs as Ajayi sent Keeling the wrong way from the spot at the death to inflict a third straight defeat on the Earls.

Earlswood are next in action at home to Lane Head on Saturday, October 14 in the Les James Challenge Cup with kick-off at 3pm at The Pavilions.
