FOOTBALL - Doyle brace sends Earlswood Town top in dominant victory

CONNOR Doyle scored twice as Earlswood Town stormed to the top of the table with an impressive 3-1 win against AFC Coventry Rangers.

Doyle’s goals came either side of Dan Elwell’s strike as the Earls ended Coventry’s perfect start to the season with a dominant win at Coventry Tech Sports Club.

And the result means Earlswood lead the Midland Football League Division Two table by a point after leapfrogging their opponents in the standings.

The Earls took the lead after just seven minutes when Doyle’s driven effort from 20-yards out beat Alfie Pyott in the Coventry goal.

And the visitors were in control for the majority of the first half as Tom Kinsey’s thumping strike from distance hit the crossbar.

After taking a one-goal lead into the break, the Earls struck twice at the start of the second period to blow Coventry away.

The visitors doubled their advantage on 47 minutes when Elwell rifled home his fifth goal of the season.

And Doyle then grabbed his second of the game three minutes later after finishing well from Elwell’s deflected cross.

Coventry scored a scrappy consolation goal in injury time courtesy of Curtis Cutts but it proved too little too late as the Earls went home victorious.

Earlswood are next in action at home to Hampton in a Solihull derby on Saturday, September 9 with kick-off at 3pm at The Pavilions.
