FOOTBALL - Debutant Dodoo scores penalty as Solihull Moors held to draw by 10-man Altrincham

MATT Taylor admits his Solihull Moors team must show fight in their remaining matches this season following a 1-1 draw against 10-man Altrincham.

Moors fell behind to Regan Linney’s stunning strike only for debutant Joe Dodoo to draw the visitors level early in the second half at Moss Lane.

And Altrincham then had Justin Amaluzor sent off just before the hour mark with Moors unable to make the extra man count.

The result means Solihull sit 16th in the National League table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

And Taylor insists his players need to leave everything on the pitch with seven games left to play this campaign.

Taylor said: “As a footballer you don’t understand what it means to the supporters and the people behind the scenes when you’re not historically linked to the football club.

“The club needed a reaction, the chairman spoke to the players before the game. The players put in a shift for the Solihull shirt.

“It’s going to be an end to the season that we probably don’t all want. We’ve still got a load of injuries, that means others have to step up.

“I’ve questioned the application of the players previously and they’ve answered those questions.

“It’s got to be an absolute non-negotiable [showing fight], this team need to go and fight for the supporters, for everybody connected with Solihull and for each other.

“Whoever gets the opportunity to wear the shirt, they’ve got to go out and give everything for the club and the badge.”

Altrincham broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Linney cut in from the left and curled a stunning effort into the top right corner from just inside the penalty area.

However, Moors equalised on 51 minutes as Dodoo confidently sent Caleb Ansen the wrong way from the penalty spot.

The home side lost Amaluzor to a straight red card eight minutes later for a challenge on James Clarke.

Solihull are next in action against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, March 29 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the New Lawn.
