TAHVON Campbell scored his first goal since returning to Solihull Moors as Andy Whing’s side secured a 2-1 win away at Rochdale.

Campbell won the game for Moors on 51 minutes after Cian Hayes cancelled out Callum Maycock’s early opener at the Crown Oil Arena.

The result means Solihull sit fourth in the National League table after securing a third straight away win in all competitions.

Moors almost took the lead after just two minutes when Jack Stevens ran onto Nick Hayes’ long kick and found Joe Sbarra in the box who forced Rochdale goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks into an early save.

And the visitors broke the deadlock on nine minutes as Maycock placed a first time shot past Brooks at his near post from Campbell’s lay-off after good work from Stevens down the right.

However, Rochdale equalised on 18 minutes when Hayes curled a shot into the left corner of the goal from 20-yards out.

Moors almost reclaimed the lead just past the half-hour mark when Brooks somehow kept out Stevens’ header from close range.

And the away side went close shortly before half time as both Tyrese Shade and Sbarra saw goalbound efforts deflected behind.

Whing’s men eventually retook the lead six minutes after the break when Campbell instinctively turned Stevens’ initial shot into the top left corner.

Hayes made a smart stop to deny Ryan East just before the hour mark while Sbarra had the ball in the net at the other end only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Moors spurned a golden chance to seal the points late on when Sbarra raced through on goal only to see his shot saved by Brooks under pressure from a Rochdale defender.

Solihull are next in action away at AFC Flyde on Tuesday, February 20 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Mill Farm Stadium.
