Dexter fires K&D hopes

KNOWLE & Dorridge’s quest for the Birmingham & District Premier Division One title took a major boost, courtesy of last weekend’s resounding 148-run win over Walsall.

Declaring on 285-4 after centurion Neil Dexter (113) and Hamza Shaikh (74) piled on the runs, the Station Road hosts then needed little more than 34 overs to skittle out their opponents, with Chris Cheslin (4-28) and Aristides Karvelas (4-41) both demonstrating their bowling prowess.

It means K&D now sit just nine points behind leaders Berkswell, who could only manage a losing draw away at Kidderminster – taking six points for their efforts.

If Amir Khan (48) and Shaikh’s partnership of 96 runs captured the imagination, then the stand of 120 between the latter and Dexter went one step further to inspire the home crowd.

Remarkably, in spite of the big-hitting batting on show at the weekend, this was only Knowle & Dorridge’s third win this term, having become stalemate specialists with five winning draws this term.

Having gained a taste of that winning feeling, K&D will be hungry for more success, and aim to displace the league leaders Berkswell, when the two go head-to-head on Saturday.
