MOTORSPORT: SOLIHULL youngster Liam Delves made up for an opening race crash to bag eighth in the latest round of the Motostar British Championships in Scotland.

Delves was returning to action just five weeks after a nasty crash at Oulton Park which saw the youngster sustain multiple serious ankle injuries.

Confident in his physical state, Delves was dealt a hammer blow in his opening race when a chasing rider caught his back wheel after the 16-year-old had just moved up to seventh place.

Although Delves walked away from the incident without injury, his bike was damaged in the crash and the team had a lot of work to do in the interim period before the longer feature race.

Quick-thinking work from his team ensured Liam lined up on the third row for the feature extended race.

A good start saw the Solihull race move into a leading position.

However as the race reached its conclusion, Delves started to struggle with his ankle – and his race ended in an eighth placed finish.

He said: “Race two started off as a great race with me again moving forward and setting another personal best lap time in a great battle for fifth place.

“But towards the later part of the race I was suffering with my ankles.

“My lap times dropped off the pace.

“Considering my injury I am happy with my performance.”

Delves in next in action at Snetterton in Norfolk over the weekend of June 30 for the next round of the Motostar British Championships.

The youngster is hoping to be back to full fitness for the event.
