DORRIDGE Cricket Club are celebrating a double promotion after the club’s first and second teams both secured a place in a higher division next season.
The club’s first XI clinched promotion to the Birmingham and District Premier League Premier Division One as runners-up.
Dorridge’s first XI return to the top league next season after a six-year absence.
And Dorridge’s second XI went one better and won the Warwickshire County League Division Four title despite their final game of the season ending in an abandonment.
Dorridge’s head of cricket, Paul Rastrick said: “This has been a hugely successful season for the club.
“The first team has played really well and it has been a great team effort to achieve promotion.
“They bat throughout the team which has really helped them this year in a number of matches.
“And their bowling and fielding is first class too.
“The skills, team spirit and the effort they have put in has been rewarded by promotion to the highest league that a recreational club in this area can reach.”
“The second team at Dorridge has done fantastically well to go up from their league as champions.
“It was only confirmed on the last day of the season so it was nail biting stuff.
“They have turned a number of matches round this season that they looked like they might have lost, and it is their determination to win that has made the difference.”
Dorridge chairman, Phil Smith added: “Huge congratulations to both teams on their promotions.
“They have played fantastically well this season and the team spirit plus support they show each other is a great testament to all the players.
“This is a really exciting time at the club with our teams doing really well at senior and youth levels, and in the men’s and women’s game.
“We are aiming to build on these successes and to keep the momentum going over the winter so we are ready for the start of next season.”
The club’s first XI finished behind champions Kenilworth Wardens and lost just four games all season.
Dorridge’s second XI pipped Knowle Village to the title by two points in their division after winning 15 of their 22 matches.
