SPEEDWAY: BRUMMIES racer Liam Carr pulled off a last race win to claim third place in the National League Riders’ Championship at Leicester.
The 21-year-old finished on 12-points after a solid afternoon in a meeting won by Belle Vue star Dan Bewley.
It initially looked as if Brummies team-mate Tom Bacon was in with a greater shout of a top three finish after dropping just one point from his opening trio of races.
But while the draw didn’t necessarily help Bacon’s cause as he received the outer gates in his final rides, Carr pulled off back-to-back race wins to steal third place away from his fellow Brummie.
Ironically, while Carr flew away from gate four in Heat 20, it was Bacon’s inside pass under Lakeside’s Ben Morley which helped Carr sneak onto the rostrum.
Carr said: “It’s a shame Tom couldn’t finish in the top three with me but I think we’ve both done ourselves proud today.
“It’s always nice to do well in these individual championships and especially because it wasn’t looking likely mid-meeting, it does feel good to get a result like I have done.
“I have to thank Tom for getting past Ben Morley in the last one though and that Birmingham 5-1 so to speak was a nice way to round the meeting off.
“This one’s not just for me it’s for the people of Birmingham as well.
“They’ve welcomed me into the club with open arms, I’ve really enjoyed my time there and it’s nice to give them a little something to shout about.”
