SOLIHULL Swimming Club finished a great Mercian League season in second place following a strong performance in the final gala.
The team claimed third spot in the first round, behind the strong Coventry and Leamington Spa swimmers, before finishing first in the following meeting.
In a winner-takes-all final, Solihull walked away with 14 first places, eight seconds and nine thirds which meant they finished as league runners-up, just four points behind champions Rugby.
Meanwhile, Solihull’s Junior A team had an outstanding first year back in Division One as they claimed top spot in the first round followed up by two third places in the following events.
The young swimmers ended ninth in the table, while the Junior B team took fourth place and two thirds in their latest Leicester League rounds.
At the West Midlands Championships, Solihull representatives Deen Ahmed, Laila Elfandi and Owen Perkins competed against swimmers from some of the biggest clubs in the region.
Amazingly, Ahmed entered finals in all eight of his events, winning the 1,500m freestyle and picking up a further four silvers and two bronzes in the other races.
Elfandi took part in seven events and managed to reach the final in her three backstroke events. She went on to win silver and bronze medals.
Elsewhere, Perkins qualified for seven events and took part in the 50m breaststroke final.
To cap off a great season, 11-year-old Imogen Kielstra (City of Birmingham & Solihull) and year 13 student Ahmed have both been selected to represent Warwickshire at the County National Championships in October.
