MOTORCYCLE RACING: TANWORTH-in-Arden racer Joshua Boyd produced another strong performance at the weekend.

The youngster just missed out on his first points during round three of the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship.

It was Boyd’s first ride around the Oulton Park Circuit in Cheshire on the JDR BMW, so the team worked on a clean slate with no settings.

A target of 1min 41secs was set.

However by qualifying Boyd had shaved four seconds off his lap time from Saturday’s free practice.

His dry set up had drastically improved thanks to a new suspension package.

Boyd started the 50 mile – 18 lap – race in the dry from 34th position on row 12.

However the rain started to fall early on in the race – causing it to be red flagged on lap five to allow for tyre changes.

The race restarted with a reduced distance of nine laps.

The wet setting helped Boyd surge through the field.

He raced from 28th to 16th place and soon had his first points in sight.

However on the final lap – while battling for 15th against Fraser Rogers – the youngster had to brake harder than he wanted and fell at Hislops.

Although Boyd was disappointed with falling on the last lap he was overjoyed with his good progress, his new found confidence with the bike and the great support from the Jones Dorling team.

Team owner Chris Jones said: “I am impressed with Josh’s performance over the weekend.

“There is work to do for Josh to get stronger and challenge consistently to move into the points.”
