Berkswell off the mark

Solihull Editorial 25th May, 2018   0

BERKSWELL finally got up and running in the Birmingham League Premier Division with a 22-run victory over basement boys Barnt Green.

After back-to-back defeats to Shrewsbury and West Bromwich Dartmouth, Berkswell’s victory sees them move up to eighth place in the table ahead of Saturday’s home game against Attock.

Berkswell were put into bat after losing the toss with only three of their players failing to reach double figures as the hosts posted 272-9 from their 50 overs.

Chriss Wittock top scored with 52 while Mohammed Ahmed (47) and Liam Gately (47) fell agonisingly short of their half centuries.

Thomas Milnes (34) and Grant Thornton (32) also kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely.

Andrew Sutton (3-43) was pick of the Green bowlers.

In reply Green got off to a shaky start, falling to 30-2 but Matthew Lamb (88) and George Hargave (40) steadied the ship as the visitors propelled the score to 138-4.

Green battled on with late showings from Darrel Williams (23), Sutton (30 not out) and Adam Hussain (17 not out) but it was not enough as they fell short on 250-6.
