Barons tame lions in NIHL Midland Cup opener

Solihull Editorial 26th Sep, 2019   0

SOLIHULL Barons opened their NIHL Midland Cup campaign in style with a 13-2 victory at Nottingham Lions.

An opening goal inside the first two minutes from Niklas Ottosson put Solihull firmly on the path to victory, with Adam Brittle doubling the lead at the close of the first period.

The game was put to put in the second 20 minutes as the Barons fired six goals past Thomas Hovell in an extremely one-sided period.

Tom Soar and Callum Bowley registered their names on the scoresheet with a couple of goals each, while Phil Mulcahy and Ruskin Hughes also found the net.

With the game all but wrapped up, Ben Lee – the son of Barons legend Phil – stepped on to the ice for his senior debut between the pipes.

Ottosson found a second of the night, before the Lions capitalised on a lapse in concentration by the visitors to score two without reply.

But the confident end to the third period quickly made amends, as Daniel Mulcahy, Tom Soar and a couple more from Ottosson confirmed the win.

Barons host Blackburn Hawks in the Moralee Division on Sunday (5.30pm).
