THREE Solihull Barons players recorded braces in a thumping 13-0 win over Nottingham Lions on Sunday.

The win was the Barons’ third in three games in the NIHL Midlands Cup, putting them top of the group alongside Sutton Sting, thanks to two goals apiece for Andy Whitehouse, Niklas Ottosson and Tom Soar.

After withstanding some early pressure from the youthful visitors, Solihull’s Adie Brittle flew a shot high past Philip Mulcahy into the net for a fifth-minute opener.

Barons doubled their lead six minutes later when Matt Maurice tapped in his own rebound, prior to a quickfire double by Ottosson a minute later to put the hosts in control.

It was five when Daniel Harrison slotted home in the 15th minute to cap off the scoring in the opening period.

Continuing in the second period with the same attacking intensity, Dave Rogers added to the scoresheet four minutes after the restart, while Soar thumped a shot from a similar angle into the back of the net via the crossbar.

Whitehouse struck twice in the space of six minutes to end the second period with the Barons nine goals to the good.

Marcus Maynard, a second for Soar and Daniel Mulcahy all found the net, with Ruskin Hughes completing the scoring against his former side with less than a minute to play.

Solihull host Blackburn Hawks in their next fixture in the NIHL Midlands Cup on Sunday November 3 after a week off.
