CRICKET: FORMER England international and Warwickshire Bears skipper Ian Bell has signed up to Knowle and Dorridge’s Birmingham Premier League title defence.

The five-times Ashes winner joins K&D as a Warwickshire CCC contracted player and will add a huge amount of experience and stature to the club.

Bell played 118 tests for England during a ten-year career with the national side.

He scored 22 test centuries, scored more than 7000 runs and hit four One Day International hundreds.

In 2015, he became the second player since Ian Botham to be involved in five Ashes series wins.

Since turning professional in 1998, Bell has amassed more than 292 first class games and scored over 19,000 runs for his county – averaging just over 43.

Bell also captained Warwickshire’s to their successful 2016 Royal London Trophy victory versus Surrey at Lords.

The Coventry-born batsman said: “I am really looking forward to joining the Birmingham Premier League champions this season as their Warwickshire professional.

“K&D has the best setup in the Midlands from juniors all the way up to the 1st team. It will be a real privilege for play for the club.”

First team skipper Sam Reddish added: “I am over the moon to have someone of Ian’s ability and vast professional experience for this season.

“His wealth of international experience, playing at the highest level, shall no doubt be priceless for us.

“I can’t wait to get the season started and to defend our league title.”

David Smith, K&D cricket chairman said Bell’s character and drive will complement the club’s strong first team.

“Ian’s drive will help us support our exciting junior talent,” said Smith.

“We are always working harder to recruit fresh talent to this club and we continue to do so.

“Ian brings a huge presence to the club and will assist with the development of our wider senior playing squad throughout the season.”

Knowle and Dorridge’s preparations for the season are already underway with adult winter nets taking place on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm at Alderbrook School.
