Solihull woman silences decade-long tinnitus struggle

A SOLIHULL woman living with tinnitus and hearing loss for more than a decade has found relief thanks to the latest technology.

Mary Lane first sought help for her hearing loss during the pandemic after living with a constant buzzing and was fitted with hearing devices.

But during a more recent visit to Specsavers Solihull Hearing Centre her life turned around after hearing aid dispenser Anila Hussain recommended a new range that is app-controlled.

Mary said: “I’ve had hearing loss for around 10 years, along with this constant buzzing from tinnitus, and I just learned to live with it. I didn’t realise hearing devices could actually help with the tinnitus as well.

“When I tried the new hearing devices, I honestly couldn’t believe it – the buzzing just stopped. I burst into tears because it was such a relief. I kept thinking it would come back, but when I have them in, it’s completely gone.”

Before upgrading her hearing devices, the persistent buzzing had begun to take a toll on Mary’s daily life.

She added: “It was affecting my concentration so much that I started to worry there was something seriously wrong with me – I even thought I might be developing dementia. It’s hard to explain how exhausting that constant noise is until it’s gone.

“I’m 67 now and I feel like I’ve got my life back. I’m going out more, doing things on holiday that I wouldn’t have done before, and spending as much time as I can having fun with my kids and grandkids. We’re making the most of everything.”

Specsavers Solihull Hearing Centre audiology director, Nilam Yaqoob said: “Mary’s story is a wonderful example of how modern hearing devices can transform lives. Tinnitus can be incredibly distressing, and it’s so rewarding to see the difference the right technology can make.

“She’s now enjoying life again, feeling confident and connected to the people around her.”
