A TUBA-playing teen is celebrating after she was chosen to perform with an acclaimed national brass band.
Neve Lawrence from Shirley, began playing the tuba seven years ago and usually performs with her local group, Shirley Band.
But this summer the 16 year-old will complete a course with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain following a successful audition.
Neve will receive teaching and perform advanced music headed by esteemed conductor Bramwell Tovey, before playing two concerts in Derbyshire and Nottingham.
The aspiring musician has already put her career in motion having played at the Barbican Centre in London and the Menin Gate Memorial in Belgium with the band during a previous course.
The 80 piece band was founded in 1952 by Dr Denis Wright OBE, and this year celebrates its 65th anniversary.
Neve whose ambitions were inspired when she attended a brass band workshop, will study at the Junior Birmingham Conservatoire alongside her regular study, in September.
She said: ” My family are immensely proud and supportive. My parents take me all over the country so that I can either perform or listen.
I attend monthly rehearsals in Sandbach with the Fodens Youth Brass Band where I receive excellent tuition from some of the finest brass players in the country.”
