He died on January 4 and his family are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

The police say the man is believed to have been hit by a Silver Mercedes E220 and are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage who was in the area at the time and any witnesses to the collision to get in touch.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving above the legal alcohol limit.

He has been released on police bail.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a busy stretch of road with lots of people about, so I am really keen to hear off anyone who witnessed the collision or captured it on dashcam footage.

“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this difficult time and we will continue to support them.”
