Olive’s kindness will live on after revamp

A FORMER resident at a Shirley nursing home will live on after works were completed in her honour.

Swallows Meadow Nursing Home refurbished the residents lounge and garden in memory of Olive Mary Parkes following a legacy receipt.

After speaking with the team at Interiors by Amara Hammond, the residents meeting gave the nod for a garden theme, with bespoke furnishings and leafy greens pulling the garden appearance into the lounge.

The nursing home said as a token of appreciation for the generous donation to our residents it named the lounge after the benefactor.

Residents, staff and volunteers planted up the planters and decorated a specially constructed pergola where residents sit take part in outside activities.

Olive’s family officially open the Olive Mary Parkes Garden Lounge, with Yvonne, Olive’s great niece and god-daughter, officially cutting the ribbon to declare the lounge open.

This was followed by a feast of sandwiches and cakes, with activities team and management providing the Champagne and fizz.

Swallows Meadow says it is looking forward to many hours of relaxation and entertainment in the new bespoke spaces.
