MIDLANDS Air Ambulance Charity has announced the appointment of Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE as its new patron.

Sir David, who holds several prominent leadership and advisory positions across the NHS and global health sector, brings a wealth of expertise that will further strengthen the charity’s mission to deliver exceptional pre‑hospital emergency care across the Midlands.

As an independent healthcare provider operating in close partnership with the NHS, the charity relies entirely on public support to maintain its advanced clinical services.

The charity has said that Sir David’s appointment underscores its commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and the continual enhancement of patient care for some of the region’s most critically ill and injured people.

Sir David has decades of senior leadership experience within the NHS, including serving as chief executive of NHS England.

During this time, he oversaw significant national reforms and championed improvements in patient outcomes.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity said his strategic insight will support the organisation as it continues to advance its clinical capabilities and invest in lifesaving critical care provision across its six‑county operational area.

Speaking about his appointment, Sir David Nicholson said: “Midlands Air Ambulance Charity plays a vital role in delivering lifesaving pre‑hospital emergency care when every second counts.

“I have long admired the professionalism of its crews and the impact the service has on communities across the Midlands. I am honoured to become a patron and look forward to supporting the charity’s continued growth and innovation.”

Chief executive officer, Hanna Sebright, added: “Sir David’s reputation, experience and passion for improving patient outcomes position him as an ideal patron for our charity.

“His support will be invaluable as we continue to develop our clinical services and ensure our organisation remains at the forefront of pre‑hospital emergency medicine.”

The appointment comes as the charity celebrates the significant milestone of 35 years of lifesaving service across the Midlands.
