INTREPID young explorers braved the weather as they put their survival skills to the test.

The 27-strong group from Lyndon School travelled to the Alfey Centre in Coventry, carrying backpacks full of snacks and all the equipment needed to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme (DofE) Bronze practice expedition.

As part of the challenge the year 10 pupils had to plan their own route, set up their tents and cooked a basic meal – all to prepare them for their final expedition later this term.

The expedition is the culmination of the months’ long challenge, which has seen them develop new skills, take part in physical activities and participate in a voluntary work.

Abid Butt, headteacher at Lyndon School, as part of Summit Trust Learning Trust, said: “I am incredibly proud of our learners, who threw themselves into the challenge of their expedition weekend with courage and determination.

“Through this opportunity they have learnt that by digging deep and working as a team they can achieve something really worthwhile – lessons that will serve them well throughout life.”
