Emergency road restrictions in Solihull and Shirley town centres

TEMPORARY emergency road restrictions have come into force in Solihull and Shirley town centres.

It follows a decision made by the Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways at the end of May.

At his decision making session, the council says councillor Ken Hawkins ‘discussed with fellow councillors a range of emergency cycling and walking measures to aid social distancing and improve access to local businesses, schools and shops’.

The temporary emergency measures for Shirley and Solihull town centres were agreed below and will be reviewed after 21 days, after beginning last Friday.




Residents are advised that all council car parks and on-street parking remain free of charge for the foreseeable future.

The temporary emergency traffic restrictions are


• Temporary prohibition of motor vehicles – A34 Stratford Road, Shirley

Service roads fronting the Baptist Church – 120 Stratford Road (west side); fronting 192 – 206 Stratford Road (west side); fronting 266 -268 Stratford Road (west side); fronting 179 – 201 Stratford Road (east side); fronting 241 – 271 Stratford Road (east side); and fronting 275 – 283 Stratford Road (east side).

• Temporary suspension of on-street waiting/loading – A34 Stratford Road, Shirley

Service road all bays on eastern side directly fronting 171b – 177b Stratford Road; and all bays on western side directly fronting 150-156 Stratford Road.

• Temporary prohibition of motor vehicles – Solihull town centre

Warwick Road B4102 (nearside lane) of the south eastbound carriageway from its junction with Lode Lane south eastwards for approximately 200 metres; Homer Road south eastbound carriageway between Prince’s Way and Herbert Road; The Square between Manor Square and its junction with New Road; New Road westbound carriageway between The Square and Park Road; and New Road eastbound carriageway between The Square and entrance to Ramada Hotel.

• Temporary one-way traffic – Solihull town centre

Homer Road one-way working in a north westerly direction between Herbert Road and Prince’s Way (north westbound carriageway only); and New Road one-way working in a westerly direction (contraflow) eastbound carriageway between Park Road and entrance to Ramada Hotel.

• Temporary suspension of on-street waiting/loading – Solihull town centre

Service road south side all bays opposite 40-52 Station Road; Drury Lane eastern side all bays directly fronting 14- 26 Drury Lane; and Mill Lane eastern side all bays fronting 38 – 44 Mill Lane.

• Temporary suspension of bus, cycle, motorcycle and taxi lane

Suspension of use by all motor vehicles – Lode Lane southbound with flow bus lane from a point approximately 15 metres northeast of its junction with Bucknell Close (private road) Lode Lane, to a point approximately 70 metres south-west of its junction with Touchwood Hall Close.

• Temporary suspension of bus, cycle and taxi priorities

Suspension of use by all motor vehicles – Warwick Road (contra-flow) south-west bound service road fronting Chadwick House and Radcliffe House – the south-eastern side from a point approximately 80 metres north-east of its junction with Warwick Road (B4102) and that junction; and bus only route Warwick Road (south-west bound) – from a point approximately 80 metres north-east of its junction with Warwick Road (B4102), north-eastward to its new junction with Lode Lane
