SOLIHULL Council has published its updated Carers’ Strategy and action plan for the next two years.
To mark Carers Week, which ran from June 9 to 15, the council unveiled its plans on how it will support the estimated 20,000 adults, young people and children in the borough who have caring responsibilities for a family member or friend.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, leader of Solihull Council, said: “We understand that carers in Solihull face significant challenges and supporting carers of all ages is a priority for the council.
“We must design and deliver services that are fair, inclusive and responsive to the needs of carers and the people they support.
“Carers Week is a powerful reminder of the vital role that our unpaid carers play. We must ensure that carers of all ages are seen, supported and celebrated in Solihull.”
Councillor Tony Dicicco, cabinet member for Adult Social Care and Health, added: “Over the last year we have been working hard to improve the support we offer people with caring responsibilities.
“For example, we have increased access to our respite services so that more carers get time to support their own wellbeing.
“Carers tell us that these services provide real moments of relief and renewal for them.”
