Chemists take on top competition

Solihull Editorial 13th Jul, 2024   0

BUDDING chemists put their skills to the test in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Schools Analyst Competition.

Throughout the competition the 15-strong team from Solihull Sixth Form College were tasked to demonstrate and expand on their existing Chemistry aptitude through practical analytical experiments.

Each competition aims to provide some tasks which are relatively familiar to the students such as titrations and others which are likely to be unfamiliar, such as chromatographic separations or atomic and molecular spectroscopy.

Curriculum leader for Chemistry and Applied Science, Simon Windsor, said: “Following the Chemistry Olympiad and the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, our young chemists have been stretched on multiple occasions this year.

“It is excellent experience for them, not only because they are being exposed to some very advanced Chemistry, but they are also being challenged to think more critically, build their resilience and boost their confidence in their abilities.

“I am proud of the efforts of the learners who took on this challenge.”
