West Midlands holidaymakers urged to 'chill out' and plan ahead

Solihull Editorial 24th Aug, 2016 Updated: 21st Oct, 2016

STRESS levels are at boiling point in the West Midlands as new research reveals local holidaymakers leave things to the last minute.

Research conducted by travel extras company, HolidayExtras.com, showed local travelers prefer to ‘wing it’ on the way to the airport – with more than 40 per cent suffering sleepless nights on account of pre-getaway anxiety.

Now, as the summer holidays draw to a close, travel experts are calling for calm to return to the region and are urging people to plan ahead before their next big trip.

Carolyne Creed, getaways guru and well-being advisor at Holiday Extras, said: “We were surprised to see West Midland folk named as the least prepared travellers in the UK but, by launching our Vacay Sensei campaign, we hope to encourage more local holidaymakers to enjoy a little extra Zen on their upcoming breaks.

“From giant colouring boards to pop up yoga classes and breathing tips, we have lots of calming activities and handy hints to share with people across the UK.

“We firmly believe that the more prepared you can be for your trip the better your break will be.

“We’ve already helped thousands of local people to enjoy a calmer way of travel this summer and with this latest campaign we hope to help many more.”

According to Holiday Extras’ research, two thirds of people say preparing for your journey well in advance is the secret to calm travel.

Distraction tools such as colouring books, films, books, music and apps prove particularly popular with female travelers, while taking food was a top tip among other passengers.
